Imagine you fall and fracture a bone and you go to the doctor who diagnoses you with osteoporosis.
The disease, which affects 3 million Brits, makes your bones become thin and fragile and more likely to break easily.
The doctor gives you a recommended drug to try and slow down this bone loss and prevent another fracture.
But, like a quarter of those who are given this drug known as alendronate, you either suffer crippling side-effects or do not respond to it.
At this point, you might expect to be given one of the alternative treatments that are available.
